The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, on Tuesday disclosed that it has discovered the sum of N258m during a burst operation in Sterling bank, Abuja.
This is coming amid the lingering scarcity of the naira which has placed many Nigerians in great hardship in recent weeks.
According to a press statement issued by the spokesperson for the anti-graft agency, Mrs Azuka Ogugua, through a press statement via its official Twitter account on Tuesday night, the agency has made several arrests following the discovery.
It was gathered that the regional and service manager of the bank have been arrested in connection to the incident.
Ogugua stated that the ICPC monitoring team was informed that the cash was the remainder of what the Central Bank of Nigeria had granted the bank for distribution to its branches when it visited the bank and found the stored fresh naira notes in the bank’s vault.
“The team however found out that only the sum of N5 million each was distributed to their various branches.
“Both the Regional and Service managers were arrested and later granted administrative bail while investigation continues,” she said.
