Jordan Ayew’s dramatic stoppage-time winner denied Southampton their elusive first Premier League victory of the season, as 10-man Saints crumbled in a thrilling 3-2 defeat to Leicester City at St Mary’s Stadium.
Southampton appeared in control early on, with Cameron Archer opening the scoring just eight minutes into the match.
The home crowd roared louder 20 minutes later when Joe Aribo coolly slotted in a second, giving the Saints a commanding 2-0 lead before halftime.
However, the Foxes found their way back into the contest in the second half. Facundo Buonanotte sparked hope for Leicester in the 64th minute, firing a precise effort to reduce the deficit.
The tide turned sharply against Southampton when Ryan Fraser was sent off for a reckless challenge inside the box, conceding a penalty.
Jamie Vardy stepped up and made no mistake, converting the spot-kick to level the match at 2-2.
With Southampton down to ten men and struggling to hold on, Leicester piled on the pressure.
In the dying moments of the game, Ayew delivered the final blow, latching onto a loose ball in the 98th minute and driving a low shot into the bottom corner past the despairing goalkeeper.
The dramatic turnaround handed Leicester their second consecutive victory, lifting them to 13th in the table.
Meanwhile, Southampton’s search for a win continues, leaving them anchored at the bottom after failing to secure even a point from a match that had seemed within their grasp.
