Popular Nigerian comedian, Debi Adebayo aka Mr Macaroni, has slammed Nigerian politicians for prioritising their political ambitions over the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities’ strike.
This comes as ASUU announced the extension of its industrial action, which has kept students home since February 14, by 12 weeks.
WuzupNigeria quoting the union’s president, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, reported that the extension was to give the government enough time to satisfactorily resolve all the outstanding issues.
Reacting to the news in a statement to his 2.1 million Twitter, Macaroni described the lack of resolution between ASUU and the Federal Government as ‘insane’.
While also lamenting the ‘great risk’ Nigerian students face amidst the ongoing strike, he called on all Nigerians to be worried.
“It is absolutely insane that there hasn’t been any solution to the ASUU strike.
“Our so-called leaders are busy obtaining forms for 2023 Elections while the future of Nigerian students is at great risk. Everyone should be worried,” he wrote.
While lecture rooms have remained shut for about three months this year, the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba; as well as Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige; both of the ruling All Progressives Congress recently picked up the party’s N100m presidential nomination and expression of interest forms each.
