Operatives of the Nigerian Army have pulled down a shrine which was reported to have belonged to the Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network in the Ordu Local Government Area of Imo State.
According to The PUNCH, this was disclosed by the the Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Musa Danmadami, during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday.
He claimed that between January 26 and February 9, 340 terrorists and members of their families turned themselves in to the military, killing over 77 of them.
He said that during that time, troops in Imo State’s Ordu Local Government Area smashed an enclave of the Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network.
Danmadami said, “On January 28, 2023, troops responded to credible information on Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network terrorist activities at County Primary School Amaruru in the Ordu Local Government Area of Imo State and made contact with the terrorists. Following the fire fight, troops neutralised one terrorist and destroyed 10 motorcycles.
“Troops also recovered one AK-47 rifle and destroyed the terrorists’ shrines, including posters with inscription of ‘No Election’.”
He added that members of the Defense Intelligence Agency team invaded the village of Yelwata in the Benue State municipality of Guma and detained a person they believed to be a gun runner.
The suspect was found to be in possession of a cellphone and an identity card for the Benue State Livestock Guard.
