Soldiers of the Nigerian Armed Forces on Tuesday repelled a terrorist attack in Borno, killing 19 terrorists in the process.
According to The PUNCH, terrorists identified to be from the Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa had laid ambush for the troupe of 21 Armoured Brigade during a fighting patrol between Kumshe and Banki axis of Borno State in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to an intelligence source who confirmed the incident, soldiers repelled the terrorists after the non-state actors exploded an Improvised Explosive Device and then fired fast bullets.
The attack was said to have been stopped by the special forces, who killed 19 insurgents with no military deaths.
“The terrorists detonated Improvised Explosive Device and followed with continuous gunshots which were immediately repelled by the gallant troops,” the source said.
He, however, noted that on Hilux vehicle belonging to the military was destroyed while some soldiers sustained injuries during the encounter, and were being treated at the Brigade Headquarters in Bama.
He did, however, point out that a military Hilux truck had been damaged and that some soldiers had been hurt and were receiving medical attention at the Brigade Headquarters in Bama.
