The Theatre Commander of North East ‘Operation Hadin Kai,’ Major-General Shuaibu Waidi, has officially transferred Chibok schoolgirl Ihi Abdul, along with her two children and 330 other women and children, to the Borno State government.
These individuals were rescued from Boko Haram terrorists during operations in the Sambisa Forest.
During a briefing at the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, Waidi stated, “Today, we will be witnessing two events, namely, the handover of the rescued Chibok girl and the handover of other women and children to Borno State Government officials for further management.”
He emphasized the theatre’s commitment to continuing efforts to rescue the remaining Chibok girls still in captivity, in line with directives from Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Toaheed Lagbaja.
Waidi also expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for the support that enabled the successful operations leading to Ihi Abdul’s rescue.
“The plight of the remaining Chibok girls continues to make national headlines, prompting us to conduct numerous military operations into terrorist strongholds to facilitate their rescue. To date, 19 Chibok girls have been rescued through direct military operations,” Waidi noted.
The Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Brigadier General Abubakar Haruna, added that Ihi Abdul was rescued by the 22 Taskforce Brigade.
He explained that Ihi, from Kuburbula village in Chibok Local Government Area, was listed as serial number 67 among the abducted Chibok girls published by the Federal Government.
She had been married to Boko Haram Commander Abu Darda and subsequently to three different husbands after fleeing to Senegal.
Haruna mentioned that Ihi Abdul, who is currently three months pregnant, has undergone necessary medical checks and is now being handed over to the Borno State government for further care.
