Jamaican athlete, Danielle Williams, has hailed Nigeria’s women’s 100m hurdles World Record holder, Oluwatobiloba Amusan, after making history at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
The Nigerian clocked 12.12 seconds in Sunday’s semifinals at Hayward Field but bested her record in the final with 12.06 to claim the gold medal.
Williams who missed the podium in the finals saw Amusan set the world record, a national record, and a lifetime or season best and revealed that the Nigerian spoke the achievement into existence.
“It was wicked. Tobi literally spoke it into existence. Just last night I was looking at Instagram she wrote ‘incoming world record holder’ and to see it unfold today, I’m proud of Tibi. Definition of speaking things into existence.
“Tobi is one of my closest friends on the circuit here. She’s one of the people I talk to. It’s nothing short of inspirational. I know what Tobi has gone through over the years,” the Jamaican said.
She also added that Amusan was close to giving up after coming fourth twice at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the last worlds in Doha in 2019.
“Finishing fourth twice is not an easy position. I know she’s been close to throwing in the towel because she’s spoken about that so to see her coming out here and do this right now is so amazing.”
