At least 12 coaches have applied for the vacant post of the head coach of the senior men’s national team of Nigeria, Super Eagles which was advertised last week.
The applicants were said have beaten the deadline for submission of application letters to the Nigeria Football Federation
NFF had five days ago declared the position of the Super Eagles head coach vacant following the expiration of the contract of former gaffer Jose Peseiro at the end of February.
In an advertisement posted on its website calling for applications, the federation noted that the prospective Super Eagles coach “must have proven experience at the elite level of football.”
Those applied for the job include former head coach of Tanzania senior men’s team, Taifa Stars and ex-coach of 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winning team, Golden Eaglets of Nigeria, Emmanuel Amuneke, Finidi George who was Peseiro’s assistant coach and former Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh.
Others who filed their applications before the deadline are, Samson Siasia, former Super Eagles head coach whose FIFA ban will soon be lifted and Sylvanus Okpala, ex-Super Eagles assistant coach under late Stephen Keshi and Michael Nsien, ex- USA U-16 team coach of Nigerian descent.
