AC Milan have officially secured the signing of Spain’s striker Alvaro Morata from Atletico Madrid.
This follows his recent success as captain, leading Spain to their Euro 2024 title victory.
The former Chelsea forward has joined the Italian giants for a reported fee of 30 million euros, £25.28m, on a four-year contract, with an option for an additional year.
“AC Milan is proud to announce the signing of Álvaro Borja Morata Martín from Club Atlético de Madrid. Captain of the Spanish national team, with which he recently won the European Championship, Morata has signed with the Rossoneri until 30 June 2028, with an option to extend for an additional year,” an official statement dated Friday, July 19, 2024, read.
Morata, now 31, concludes a four-year spell at Atletico, which also included two loan seasons at Juventus.
Throughout his career, he has amassed 172 goals in 506 matches, playing for elite clubs such as Real Madrid and Chelsea.
His extensive list of club achievements features two Champions League titles, a UEFA Super Cup, a FIFA Club World Cup, two La Liga titles, and two Serie A titles, along with several domestic cups in Spain and Italy. Internationally, he has netted 36 goals in 80 appearances for Spain, including a UEFA Nations League triumph in 2023.
AC Milan, who finished second last season, trailing Inter Milan by 19 points, view Morata’s acquisition as a critical enhancement to their attacking lineup.
This transfer coincides with the departure of Olivier Giroud, who had been a key player for the club in recent years.
Rossoneri supporters are eagerly looking forward to Morata’s contributions as the team prepares for the upcoming season, hopeful that his experience and goal-scoring abilities will help restore them to the pinnacle of Italian football.
