Popular comedian, Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has cried out over a N32M real estate investment he made 14 years ago.
Basketmouth in a Twitter post on Wednesday disclosed that he made the N32 million payment for a house in Prime Water View Estate and 14 years after he is yet to get the house nor a refund.
“I put a N32million down payment for a house in Prime Water View estate 14yrs ago.
“They had some issues with the bank funding the project that landed both parties in court. After the matter was resolved I started hearing all sorts of stories concerning the delivery of the house and the refund.
“14yrs later I’m yet to get my refund, house or even BQ sef. If I call this man/company out now, do you think I waited long enough?” he tweeted.
The post has attracted thousands of reactions on social media for his followers, including popular influencer, J.J Omojuwa who expressed worry about the sad reality of businesses in Nigeria.
HE tweeted, “The saddest bit is, even if you got paid that N32m today, you’d be getting paid far less less than half value of money you handed out then. This is sadly the norm.”
Another follower, @JideFakoya said that if he had invested in land, he would have concluded the construction before 14 years.
“This is the problem with all these futuristic property developers -INTEGRITY. Lots of hardworking 🇳🇬’s have lost moneys to these rogue’s (the financial institutions included). Imagine buying a land 14years ago with that money even in a remote area…You 4 don build finish by now,” he tweeted.
@KingsOkoli1 added, “Just do what you think is the right thing because that amount is not just small to forget like that and you have given them much time to sort things out. Boss go for your money, you never done anything wrong in giving them the contract in the first place.”
Another user, @Michaelmas1994 advised the comedian to seek legal acadvise. He said, “I believe registered companies have dedicated funds (assets n capital) 4 outright payoff to clients upon bankruptcy. Tho I wouldn’t say you waited enough considering the litigation b4 the said company. Plz Contact ur lawyer n financial advisor 4 expert advice.”
