Air Peace announced on Wednesday that a passenger on one of its flights was apprehended for allegedly stealing N1m from another passenger’s luggage.
The airline’s spokesperson, Stanley Olisa, stated in a statement issued in Lagos on July 27 that the incident occurred on flight P47192 between Abuja and Port Harcourt.
According to Olisa, the suspect stole the amount contained in a brown envelope but was apprehended by the proprietor of the money, with the assistance of airline staff.
He explained that the suspect stole another passenger’s computer bag from the overhead compartment during the flight.
“He, thereafter, took the brown envelope containing the money, put the computer bag in another luggage compartment and moved to an empty seat at the back of the aircraft,” he said.
Despite the crew’s declaration of a correct disembarkation sequence, the suspect was among the first few to disembark, according to Olisa.
He claimed that the suspect was eventually apprehended and the cash was recovered from him, with various currencies and denominations being discovered on him.
According to Olisa, the suspect was given to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria’s security personnel for subsequent transfer to the police for more inquiries.
He claimed that the police afterwards verified that he had been granted bail.
