Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, found himself in yet another legal entanglement after being arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
The incident, captured in a video that surfaced on social media on Saturday, showed the ‘Zazoo’ crooner being handcuffed and led away by police, marking the latest chapter in his tumultuous journey with the law.
Portable’s troubles stemmed from a previous arrest related to a debt concerning a G-Wagon purchase.
Just days after his initial release, he was back in police custody, this time for the altercation with the officer.
The details of the confrontation were not immediately made public by the police.
In the video, Portable could be seen in handcuffs, surrounded by officers, as he was taken into custody.
This development comes after the singer’s attempt to evade arrest earlier in the week by jumping over a gate, following a complaint from a car dealer to whom he owed money for the luxury vehicle.
Despite initial payment of N13 million for the N27 million G-Wagon and a promise to settle the rest later, Portable failed to do so, claiming the vehicle was defective.
The police had presented him with an arrest warrant, to which he responded calmly before trying to escape, as seen in the video.
Portable, known for his controversial antics, had previously released a song titled ‘Spiderman’ about his arrest and debt situation.
His fallout with the law is not new; in 2023, he was arrested and arraigned over assault allegations involving an ex-signee.
The singer’s rise to fame came with his hit single ‘Zazuu’ featuring rapper Olamide in 2021.
However, his music career has often been overshadowed by legal troubles and public controversies, making headlines for all the wrong reasons.
