Ademola Lookman delivered an outstanding performance, yet the Super Eagles of Nigeria were held to a 0-0 draw in their second AFCON 2025 qualifier against Rwanda, concluding the September international window.
Following their dominant 3-0 victory over West African rivals Benin Republic, Nigeria entered the match at the Amahoro National Stadium in Kigali with high expectations.
However, despite a hard-fought contest, both teams were unable to break the deadlock.
The Super Eagles produced the game’s best chances, with Ademola Lookman having a goal disallowed due to a foul in the box, while striker Victor Boniface came agonizingly close, only for his effort to crash against the crossbar.
At halftime, the caretaker manager, Augustine Eguavoen, made key changes, bringing on star forward Victor Osimhen for Boniface and substituting Moses Simon for the lively Samuel Chukwueze, who had been shown a yellow card following a heated exchange in the first half.
Rwanda’s goalkeeper, Fiacre Ntwari, was in sensational form, making five crucial saves to deny Nigeria’s attack and preserve the draw for the home side.
His heroics between the posts ensured the match remained goalless, frustrating Nigeria’s attempts to secure another win.
With the result, Nigeria remains at the top of Group D with four points and three goals after two matches, keeping their qualification campaign on track, though they missed the opportunity to extend their lead at the summit.
