Super Eagles interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has granted an excused absence to goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali for the team’s upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda following the tragic loss of his father.
Nwabali, who currently plays for Chippa United, received the sad news early on Friday morning. His father, a former surveyor, passed away at the age of 67.
Team administrator, Dayo Enebi Achor, confirmed Nwabali’s absence from the match, stating, “He (Nwabali) has been excused from the game. However, the player will come to watch the match and cheer his teammates on.”
With Nwabali unavailable, Coach Eguavoen now has two goalkeepers at his disposal for the fixture; Maduka Okoye and Amas Obasogie.
The Super Eagles are set to face Rwanda on Monday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
