By Wilson Adekumola
The Super Eagles starting XI for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 encounter against Cameroon has been unveiled by the head coach, Jose Peseiro.
Peseiro unveiled this ahead of the anticipated 9 pm kick-off on Saturday.
Defender William Troost-Ekong returned from injury and will captain Nigeria against the Indomitable Lions at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.
Leading the team will be William Troost-Ekong, who returns to action and will assume the captaincy against the Rigobert Song-led Indomitable Lions at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.
Peseiro will continue with his 3-4-3 formation, positioning Stanley Nwabali in goal behind the defensive trio of Troost-Ekong, Semi Ajayi, and Calvin Bassey. Ola Aina and Zaidu Sanusi are set to flank as wingbacks.
In the midfield, Alex Iwobi partners with Frank Onyeka, just as Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Osimhen spearhead the attacking line.
Kenneth Omeruo, Samuel Chukwueze, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Joe Aribo, who took part in a game against Guinea-Bissau are the players conspicuously absent from the starting XI.
Also, Yusuf Alhassan, who is recovering from injury sustained against Equatorial Guinea, is also omitted.
The Nigeria side sealed their spot in the AFCON knock out stages after amassing seven points from the Group A matches, while Cameroon stoppage-time victory in their final group encounter saw their progression to the next round.
