Cameroon captain, Vincent Aboubakar, has bemoaned the team’s disappointing defeat to Nigeria in the ongoing 2023 African Cup of Nations in Cote D’ivoire.
The Indomitable Lions’ captain expressed his disappointment while speaking with journalists
Rigobert Song’s side exited the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after a 2-0 defeat to perennial rivals, Nigeria in their Round of 16 contest.
The five-time champions dominated possession in the game but failed to muster a shot on target.
Aboubakar made his first appearance of the competition in the keenly contested encounter.
The forward sustained an injury on the eve of the AFCON 2023 finals and missed Cameroon’s group games.
Aboubakar couldn’t hide his disappointment after the embarrassing loss to the Super Eagles.
“The feeling can only be negative. Today we found an even tougher opponent. You know that Nigeria isn’t an easy team,” Aboubakar told reporters.
“Cameroon dominated in terms of possession but small errors cost us the match. It’s football; there’s nothing we can do about it.
“We will just get up and prepare for the next games. It’s sad that now we will be spectators of the AFCON.”
