A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Afam Osigwe, has been elected as the new president of the Nigerian Bar Association following the 2024 online election.
Osigwe, who previously served as the NBA’s Secretary-General, led the vote with 20,395, significantly outpacing his nearest competitor, Tobenna Erojikwe, who received 10,970 votes, and Chukwuka Ikwuazom, who secured 9,007 votes. He will take over from the outgoing president, Yakubu Maikyau.
In other key election results:
1st Vice-President: Sabastine Anyia won with 12,114 votes, defeating Bartholomew Aguegbodo, who received 6,864 votes.
2nd Vice-President: Mrs. Bolatumi Animashaun led with 26,534 votes, surpassing Pius Oiwoh, who garnered 11,121 votes.
3rd Vice-President: Mrs. Zainab Garba achieved 23,550 votes, overcoming Michael Olorunmola, who earned 13,897 votes.
General Secretary: Dr. Mobolaji Ojibara received 25,713 votes, defeating Abdulwasiu Alfa, who secured 11,730 votes.
Assistant General Secretary: Henry Ehi won with 28,552 votes, against Oluwaseun Aka, who got 8,317 votes.
Treasurer: Mrs. Blessing Udofa-Poromon garnered 17,998 votes, surpassing Mbamala Chukwuemeka, who received 9,825 votes.
Welfare Secretary: Nyada Auta achieved 18,369 votes, beating Oaikhena Osagie, who scored 12,855 votes.
Publicity Secretary: Mrs. Bridget Edokwe led with 19,542 votes, defeating Charles Ajiboye, who obtained 10,989 votes.
Assistant Publicity Secretary: Miss Ebiere Ekpese received 26,955 votes, overcoming Lawrence Ayewa, who got 9,690 votes.
