LA female Diploma student of the Department of Mass Communication in Federal Polytecnics Mubi, Adamawa State has committed suicide after her boyfriend informed her he was no longer interested in their relationship.
The State Police Command Spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, who confirmed the incident on Monday, noted that the father of the deceased reported the matter to the police.
The year two student was reportedly doing industrial attachment with Adamawa State Television, Yola, Jemima Shetima Balami.
Jemima allegedly committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance after her boyfriend announced in the end of their relationship.
The boyfriend is said to be a lecturer with the Modibbo Adama University, Yola.
The female student, who hails from Garkida, in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, died at her residence in Vinikilang, a Riverside community near the state capital, Yola.
The 24-year-old Jemima is said to be the only daughter of her father.
Speaking on the unfortunate incident the police spokespsrson said, “The father of Jamima reported that she committed suicide by taking a deadly substance. Another version had it that she visited her boyfriend, a lecturer at Modibbo Adama University, Yola, and was told to quit the relationship. Angered by the news of exiting her boyfriend, the deceased took poison.”
Nguroje, however, stated that the matter would be duly investigated.
