In the last six weeks, the Adamawa and Taraba Area Command of the Nigerian Customs Service has made seizures totaling N22.89 million in duty paid value.
This was disclosed by the Area Comptroller, Salisu Abdullahi-Kazaure.
According to the local comptroller, among the confiscated goods was fertiliser, which was taken because some criminals were using it to make improvised explosive devices.
He claims that between May 6 and June 16, the command executed 16 seizures.
According to Abdullahi-Kazaure, the commodities recovered included three vehicles used for smuggling, 14,980 litres of petrol in jerry cans and 494 bags of NPK fertiliser.
Others, he claimed, included 960 pieces of foreign soap and 90 bags of 50 kg foreign parboiled rice from Cameroon.
He explained that the NCS Standard Operating Procedure would be followed while auctioning off the seized petroleum products.
According to Abdullahi-Kazaure, while fertiliser is not illegal, it was seized because certain criminals were using it to make improvised explosive devices.
