A Point of Sale operator in Abuja, Kelvin Samuel, has been arraigned in Grade I Area Court, Kubwa, Abuja by the Abuja police command for alleged theft.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the defendant was charged with criminal breach of trust, stealing, and evading lawful custody.
The Prosecution Counsel, John Okpa, the complainant, Ozigbo Henry, reported the case to the Divisional Police Headquarters Byazhin on December 29, 2022.
Okpa claimed that the complainant hired the defendant as a POS operator, paid him N100,000 in cash, and loaded N60,000 into the machine.
According to the prosecution, the complainant allegedly supplied the defendant his office keys and a record book to record daily transactions.
He stated, however, that the defendant took all of the items and transferred the money to his personal use.
He claimed that the offense violated sections 312, 287, and 173 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, on the other hand, pleaded not guilty.
The defense attorney, Tochukwu Agoziem, filed a bail application under section 36 subsection 5 of the 1999 Constitution, imploring the court to utilize its discretion wisely in favor of the defendant.
The defendant was granted bail in the sum of N300,000 with one surety located within the court’s jurisdiction by the judge, Yahaya Sheshi.
Sheshi stated that the surety must submit the court with two recent passport photographs, a national identity card, and a printout of the bank verification number, as well as N60,000 as security.
