Fenerbahce head coach, Jose Mourinho, delivered a surprising take on his team’s 3-1 home loss to Rangers in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night, insisting that the result was actually a positive one for his side.
Rangers took an early lead through Cyriel Dessers in the sixth minute, but Fenerbahce responded with an equalizer from Alexander Djiku.
However, the Scottish club regained control as Vaclav Cerny netted twice to seal an impressive victory.
When asked about his team’s shortcomings on the night, Mourinho told TNT Sports, “Everything.”
Despite the defeat, the Portuguese tactician maintained an optimistic stance, stating, “The result is good for us. I know that [Rangers goalkeeper Jack] Butland had two or three fantastic saves, but I would say that the result is closer to being bigger than smaller, so for us, it’s a good result.”
With the return leg set for next week, Fenerbahce will now look to overturn the deficit and keep their European campaign alive.
