A 40-year-old Colombian man was apprehended at Rafael Núñez International Airport while attempting to smuggle cocaine worth £8,000 under a wig.
He was en route to Amsterdam, Netherlands, when authorities uncovered the illicit substance.
Police footage captured the moment officers removed the man’s wig, exposing 19 capsules of cocaine hidden beneath it.
The capsules had a combined weight of 220 grams. Following the discovery, the suspect was arrested on charges related to drug trafficking, manufacturing, and possession of narcotics.
Colombian national police stated that the operation disrupted criminal activities and prevented the distribution of over 400 doses of cocaine, estimated to be worth more than €10,000 (£8,296) on the international market.
Speaking on the matter, Police Commander, Gelver Yecid Peña Araque, highlighted ongoing efforts against drug cartels, revealing that more than 450 individuals have been arrested for drug-related offenses this year.
“We are dealing decisive blows against these criminal structures that not only fight over local drug trafficking, but are also the generators of different violent acts and other types of crimes that disrupt peace and coexistence,” he stated.
He further emphasized the crucial role of public cooperation in tackling crime, urging citizens to provide timely information to help identify and apprehend offenders.
