Arsenal’s Premier League title ambitions took a major hit as West Ham United stunned them with a 1-0 victory at the Emirates on Saturday, courtesy of Jarrod Bowen’s first-half strike.
Bowen found the net in the 44th minute, heading home from close range, and Arsenal, struggling in attack due to multiple injuries, failed to mount a meaningful response, suffering their first home league loss of the season.
Despite dominating possession, the Gunners barely tested West Ham’s goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, managing only two shots on target.
Their woes deepened in the 70th minute when substitute Myles Lewis-Skelly was sent off for bringing down Mohammed Kudus, leaving them with 10 men for the remainder of the game.
Mikel Arteta’s side remains second in the standings with 53 points from 26 matches, now trailing leaders Liverpool by eight points.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s title credentials will be put to the test when they visit reigning champions Manchester City on Sunday.
