The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba, has engaged transport stakeholders in discussions on the enforcement of third-party motor insurance for vehicles operating on the state’s roads.
According to The PUNCH, the police commissioner met with leaders from the National Union of Road Transport Workers, the Nigeria Association of Road Transport Owners, the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, and the Kano Line Motor Park Chairman.
In a statement released on Thursday by the Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, the commissioner commended transport operators for their cooperation and adherence to the policy.
“We appreciate the high level of compliance among vehicle owners in Kano State,” Garba said. “From the first day of enforcement, over 85% of motor vehicle owners have obtained the required third-party motor insurance document.”
He reiterated the command’s commitment to enforcing the policy, stating, “The Kano State Police Command will continue to ensure strict compliance with third-party motor insurance, in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.”
The commissioner urged transport associations to continue sensitizing their members on the importance of compliance and encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities to the police through the dedicated helplines: 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09019292926.
He further emphasized the significance of third-party motor insurance in promoting road safety and preventing legal infractions.
“This is necessary as it will help avoid legal consequences and enhance road safety for all,” the statement read.
The police command reassured residents of its commitment to traffic law enforcement and urged vehicle owners yet to obtain their third-party insurance to do so without delay.
