Barcelona playmaker, Pedri, has extended his contract with the club until June 2030, a significant boost for club president Joan Laporta amidst scrutiny over the Dani Olmo saga.
The 22-year-old has long been viewed as a future star, having filled the void left by club legend Andres Iniesta.
Pedri, who was part of Spain’s European Championship-winning squad in 2024, signed the new deal alongside Laporta and Barcelona’s sports director, Deco, as reported on the club’s website.
“Happy to renew, to be where I want to be the most,” Pedri said. “I haven’t felt this way in a long time. I’m enjoying football, which is what I love the most.”
“I now have to repay that trust on the pitch and play as well as possible and win titles, which is what this Barca is made for,” he added. “We have a good team, a very young one, which in a few years will be even better.”
Laporta has faced mounting pressure following the league’s ruling that Barcelona failed to register summer signings Olmo and Pau Victor on time.
As a result, both players currently hold temporary playing licenses.
Meanwhile, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona secured second place in the 36-team Champions League on Wednesday but find themselves trailing Real Madrid by seven points in La Liga.
