The Cocoa Farmers Alliance Association of Africa has called on Randy Abbey, the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board to address the pressing issues affecting the cocoa industry.
In a congratulatory message on Wednesday, COFAAA President Adeola Adegoke highlighted the significance of Abbey’s appointment at a critical time for the sector.
He noted that challenges such as climate change, fair pricing, and the need for greater value addition require immediate attention.
“We are confident that your expertise, passion, and dedication will steer COCOBOD and the Ghanaian cocoa industry to even greater heights,” the statement read.
Adegoke also commended COCOBOD’s longstanding reputation for excellence, expressing optimism that Abbey’s leadership would drive sustainability, innovation, and inclusivity within the industry.
“As an association committed to the welfare of cocoa farmers across Africa, we look forward to collaborating closely with COCOBOD under your leadership to champion initiatives that empower farmers, improve livelihoods, and ensure the long-term sustainability of our cherished African cocoa industry,” the statement continued.
COFAAA further acknowledged the recent visit of International Cocoa Organization Executive Director Mitchel Arrion to Yaoundé, Cameroon, for the 111th Ordinary Session of the ICCO.
This visit, the statement noted, reflects ICCO’s dedication to fostering international cooperation and advancing the well-being of cocoa farmers across Africa.
The association emphasized that stronger partnerships between ICCO, COCOBOD, and other stakeholders would contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive global cocoa ecosystem.
“Once again, congratulations on your new role. The COFAAA pledges its unwavering support as you embark on this transformative journey to elevate the Ghanaian cocoa sector, the African cocoa ecosystem, and strengthen its position on the global stage,” the statement noted.
