The Sokoto State Government has called on residents to remain alert as military operations targeting bandit groups in the eastern region of the state and neighboring areas gain momentum.
In a statement issued by retired Colonel Ahmed Usman, Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Security Matters, the government revealed that the joint military offensive has made significant progress, disrupting the activities of the bandits.
“Several terrorist camps have been destroyed, dozens of bandits neutralized, and hundreds of kidnapped victims rescued,” the statement disclosed.
Residents were cautioned to watch for suspicious movements as the crackdown has forced some bandits, including those injured, to flee to other areas.
“As security forces increase pressure on the bandits, some of them are fleeing to other areas with injured members. We are raising awareness to ensure our people remain alert, as these bandits may attempt to hide in villages or seek medical treatment at local clinics under disguise,” the statement warned.
The government emphasized the importance of community participation in enhancing security efforts. “We encourage all residents to report unusual activities to the authorities. Your vigilance is crucial to the success of these operations,” the statement added.
The ongoing operations align with Governor Aliyu’s nine-point agenda, which prioritizes peace and security as key pillars of development in Sokoto State.
“The government remains steadfast in its commitment to collaborating with security agencies to restore stability and ensure the safety of all citizens,” the statement concluded.
