A tragic restaurant fire in the Czech city of Most, located roughly 70 kilometers northwest of Prague, has resulted in six fatalities and left eight others injured, rescue services confirmed on Sunday.
The fire service shared on X that the blaze spread rapidly, likely due to a gas heater being accidentally knocked over.
The incident occurred on Saturday night within a restaurant situated in a housing estate.
Flames were first reported at 22:17 GMT, and firefighters managed to bring the situation under control by midnight.
“Despite all efforts… the fire had tragic consequences for six people,” the fire service stated.
Eight individuals sustained injuries, with six reported in critical condition. They were rushed to hospitals in Most, Usti nad Labem, and Prague for treatment.
Interior Minister Vít Rakušan, posting on X, revealed that about 30 people were evacuated from both the restaurant and a neighboring apartment block during the operation.
