Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to seven points after a 3-1 victory over Leicester at Anfield.
Chelsea’s earlier defeat to Fulham on Boxing Day gave Liverpool the opportunity to strengthen their position, and they capitalized on it despite a shaky start.
Leicester shocked the hosts early, taking the lead in the sixth minute when Jordan Ayew’s deflected shot found the bottom corner from a Stephy Mavididi cross.
However, Liverpool responded strongly. Cody Gakpo equalized in first-half stoppage time, cutting in from the left and curling a brilliant shot into the net from the edge of the box.
In the second half, Curtis Jones put Liverpool ahead, finishing off a cut-back from Alexis Mac Allister.
Mohamed Salah sealed the win late on, driving into the box from the right and delivering a precise finish past Leicester goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk, securing his 16th Premier League goal of the season.
With Arsenal set to play Ipswich on Friday, Liverpool’s lead could drop to six points if the Gunners win, but with a game in hand, Liverpool remains in a commanding position in the title race.
Leicester, on the other hand, fall into 18th place, their third consecutive loss leaving them just one point above the relegation zone.
