Super Eagles star, Joe Aribo, has been linked to a 10m move to Premier League side Southampton from the Scottish Premiership side, Rangers.
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Ralph Hassenhuttl’s side is now working to agree on a fee for the Nigerian international who has a £10 million release clause in his deal at the Ibrox which is already in its final 12 months.
It is understood that Rangers will not accept a total package below that value and Southampton are confident of securing the Nigeria international and a deal spanning at least four years is being prepared despite interest from another club.
Ornstein added that the proposed transfer would also be subject to Aribo undergoing a medical before it is completed.
Rangers – who fly out to Portugal on Monday for a pre-season training camp – risk selling Aribo for free next summer if he stays.
The former Charlton Athletic player joined Rangers in 2019, signing a four-year contract with the Ibrox club. He was a near ever-present last season under Steven Gerrard and Giovanni van Bronckhorst, making 57 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals and assisting a further 10.
He is expected to become the Saints’ fifth summer signing after goalkeepers Gavin Bazunu and Mateusz Lis and defender Armel Bella-Kotchap.
Soton are close to completing their fourth singing, midfielder Romeo Lavia, for £12m from Manchester City.
