The National Youth Service Corps Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Fadah, has warned serving corps members that they are not immune to the consequences of wrongdoings.
Fadah made this known on Tuesday at Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area, during the closing ceremony of the Batch B Stream 1 orientation course for NYSC members deployed to Bauchi State
Addressing corps members, Fadah warned them to desist from misgivings in their respective places of primary assignment.
“Remember that your membership of the service corps does not confer on you immunity from the legal consequences of any wrongdoing.
“I, therefore, enjoin you all to continue to be law-abiding citizens while also serving as role models for the younger ones,” he said.
According to DAILY POST, the DG, who was represented by the state NYSC State Coordinator, Namadi Abubakar, called on employers to accept corps members posted to them and make necessary provisions for their welfare.
He also urged the employers to mentor the corps members to enable them to develop potential
“I also call on other stakeholders, including state and local government authorities as well as traditional rulers, to give necessary encouragement to the corps members,” Fadah added.
He reiterated the scheme’s warning against unauthorised journeys and night trips, adding that “travelling at night will not only increase the risk of accidents but also make rescue difficult.
“You are therefore advised to always cut short your trips from six o’clock in the evening and pass the night at NYSC Lodges, military barracks and other locations officially designated as safe”.
Fadah appreciated the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), for its unwavering support for the scheme.
He also appreciated state governments, local councils, security agencies and the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19, NCDC, traditional rulers and other stakeholders for their support over the years.
