The Benue State Police Command has launched an investigation into the murder of a young lawyer, Mike Ofikwu, who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Otukpo town on Wednesday night.
According to The PUNCH, the incident occurred at the lawyer’s residence on Otukpa Street. According to eyewitnesses, Ofikwu was ambushed by two armed men as he arrived home and waited for the gate to be opened.
“While he was waiting for his family to let him in, the gunmen emerged from their hiding spot and shot him at close range,” said a source who spoke anonymously. “He was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, the doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.”
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, Catherine Anene, expressed condolences to the lawyer’s family and friends, assuring them that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
“This is a tragic incident. We are already investigating the case and will ensure those responsible are apprehended and face the law,” Anene stated.
