National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, on Saturday, formally handed over 58 individuals rescued by security agencies during coordinated joint operations to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.
In a subsequent gesture, Musa transferred custody of the rescued persons to the Kaduna State Government, represented by Sani Kila, the Chief of Staff to Governor Uba Sani.
Musa, while presenting the individuals to the state government, highlighted the significance of collaboration among military and security agencies in achieving the successful rescue.
He underscored the necessity for collective national support, urging all Nigerians to take ownership of the ongoing security operations to enhance their success.
He pointed out that efforts to improve security have faced significant challenges, with certain individuals deliberately undermining government initiatives.
Despite this, he assured the public that security forces are working relentlessly to ensure safety and protection for all Nigerians.
In addressing misconceptions about banditry, General Musa emphasized that not all individuals involved are willing participants, revealing that some are coerced into such activities. “The military will continue to pursue the perpetrators,” he stated, reaffirming the commitment of the armed forces to dismantling the structures enabling banditry.
Musa attributed the rescue operation’s success to seamless collaboration across various levels of government and agencies. “What we are seeing out of this is the success of the collaboration right from the top,” he remarked.
He acknowledged contributions from the Presidency, the Office of the National Security Adviser, and the Ministry of Defence, as well as active support from the Kaduna State Government.
The Defence Chief also praised the efforts of Governor Uba Sani, describing him as “very supportive and very helpful” in facilitating the rescue.
He further revealed that the operation, which employed non-kinetic strategies, was accomplished without any ransom payments.
“No penny was paid for these individuals. Now, I want Nigerians to understand that if we do not work together, it will be extremely difficult for us to succeed,” General Musa stated, emphasizing the indispensable role of unity and cooperation in achieving long-term security solutions.
This latest operation stands as a testament to the effectiveness of unified efforts between the military, government bodies, and other security stakeholders in addressing the nation’s complex security challenges.
