The Independent National Electoral Commission has disclosed that registered voters who are yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards cannot do so by proxy.
INEC National Commissioner, Festus Okoye, in an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, explained that the constitution does not make provisions for the collection of PVCs by proxy.
Okoye said, “You cannot send anyone to collect PVCs on your behalf because it is against the rule of law.
“If you made the efforts to register yourself, then you should also make the efforts to personally collect it.”
Okoye also enjoined all registered voters who are yet to collect their PVCs to do so as soon as possible as there is a backlog of voter cards which are yet to be claimed with them.
“If you have registered before the 2019 general elections, there is no need for you to re-register again because the electoral body already have your details.
“Attempts to register again will only invalidate the new registration,” he added.
