A Magistrate Court in Kuje, Abuja, has granted bail to Alex Ikwechegh, a House of Representatives member, after he was arraigned on charges of assault and threatening a Bolt driver.
According to the FIJ, the court, on Wednesday, ordered Ikwechegh to post a bail bond of N500,000 as part of the conditions for his release.
This development followed his not-guilty plea to three charges relating to assault and threats to life.
Ikwechegh was filmed on Sunday at his Maitama residence in Abuja, where he allegedly slapped and threatened Samuel Abuwatseya, a Bolt driver.
The incident prompted police action, with the arraignment overseen by the Inspector-General of Police’s office.
In response to the public outcry and criticism, Ikwechegh issued an apology on Tuesday.
