Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has attributed the blackouts in the Northern region to incessant security challenges.
During a press conference held on Tuesday, Adelabu provided insights into the situation, emphasizing the significant impact of security threats on the region’s power supply.
He specifically noted that repairs on the vandalized Shiroro-Kaduna Line had faced delays due to these security issues.
“This time was more severe, and the repairs have been delayed because of security threats,” he stated, underscoring the complexities involved in restoring power to the affected areas.
Adelabu expressed confidence that efforts are underway to resolve the issue, assuring citizens that power supply would be restored to the region by the end of the week.
His comments came in the wake of heightened public frustration, as many Nigerians had taken to social media on Monday to demand the minister’s resignation over the extended periods of darkness affecting Northern states.
The minister’s update follows a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has tasked Adelabu and the relevant agencies with prioritizing the restoration of power supply in the region after days of ongoing blackouts.
