Barcelona manager, Hansi Flick, has defended his team’s conduct following a heated moment with Carlo Ancelotti during Barcelona’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Real Madrid in El Clasico.
The Catalan club delivered a stunning performance at the Bernabeu, with Robert Lewandowski scoring twice and teenage sensation Lamine Yamal adding a memorable goal to spoil Kylian Mbappe’s much-anticipated debut in Spanish football’s fiercest rivalry.
The breakthrough came in the 54th minute when Lewandowski latched onto a brilliant pass from Barcelona’s young star Marc Casado, slotting home to put Barcelona in front.
Just three minutes later, the Polish striker struck again, connecting with a well-placed header that silenced Madrid’s home supporters.
The Barcelona onslaught continued into the second half when Yamal, at only 16, made his mark by firing a powerful angled shot past Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Andriy Lunin in the 77th minute, marking his own debut Clasico appearance with a sensational finish.
Raphinha then capitalized on Madrid’s increasingly desperate attempts to press forward, racing clear of their defense and chipping Lunin in the 84th minute, sealing a historic and humiliating defeat for Los Blancos.
The tension on the pitch seemed to spill over to the sidelines after Raphinha’s late goal. Ancelotti was seen confronting Flick, pointing a finger in his direction, sparking speculation of a clash between the two managers.
Flick, however, downplayed the incident post-match, saying, “I haven’t seen it. I’ve spoken to him, but it’s a normal situation. We celebrated the goal. We’re adults enough to talk about this.”
Ancelotti, for his part, clarified that his anger was directed not at Flick himself but at a member of his coaching team.
“I didn’t argue with Hansi Flick; I got angry with one of his staff. He made gestures towards our bench, he didn’t act like a gentleman,” Ancelotti explained.
The win for Barcelona not only secured them three crucial points but also marked a new era of Clasico dominance led by Flick, with Barcelona’s blend of experienced and emerging talents proving too strong for their Madrid rivals on the night.
