Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface, has reacted to his exclusion from the 2024 CAF Player of the Year shortlist, which was announced on Thursday.
The talented forward, currently with Bayer Leverkusen, was notably absent from the list despite a remarkable season with his club, where they clinched both the Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal.
In an impressive campaign, Boniface netted 21 goals and provided 10 assists across 34 matches.
His stellar performances not only helped Bayer Leverkusen achieve significant success but also earned him the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season accolade and a place in the prestigious Team of the Season.
Furthermore, he played a crucial role in leading his team to the Europa League final, where they finished as runners-up.
Taking to social media platform X to respond to his omission, Boniface wrote, “Rookie of the Season. Team of the Season. No worries. I no play AFCON. Na why I dey wait for Memes d’Or.”
His lighthearted comment reflects his resilience, as he missed the Africa Cup of Nations due to an injury, yet he remains optimistic about his achievements.
Despite this setback, Boniface’s outstanding season has not gone unnoticed, and he continues to be a key player for both his club and the national team, with fans eagerly anticipating his return to full fitness.
