A senior official from the Kano State Hisbah Board, Malam Aliyu Dakata, has withdrawn an earlier report that led to serious allegations of misconduct against Auwal Sankara, the Commissioner for Special Duties in Jigawa State.
The claims, which caused significant damage to Sankara’s reputation, centered on an alleged inappropriate relationship with a married woman, Tasleem Baba Nabegu.
However, Dakata has now clarified that the initial report was erroneous, effectively clearing Sankara of any wrongdoing.
The accusation had initially prompted the Jigawa State Governor to suspend Sankara pending an investigation.
However, in a recent interview, Dakata explained that there was no basis for the allegations.
“When we arrived at the scene, we found Tasleem in her car making a phone call, while Sankara was standing in the compound of a building under construction that belongs to him. There was no evidence of any illicit relationship,” Dakata said, clarifying that Sankara was not involved in any immoral act.
Additionally, Tasleem’s legal counsel, Rabiu Shuaibu, further defended Sankara’s innocence, shedding light on Tasleem’s situation.
According to Shuaibu, Tasleem had been estranged from her husband for several months, citing domestic abuse as the cause of their separation.
“Tasleem has been separated from her husband for over 10 months and is running a business to support her children. On the day in question, she was delivering food to Sankara, who had placed an order, unaware that her husband was tracking her movements,” Shuaibu stated.
The allegations led to a wave of negative publicity for Sankara, who vehemently denied the accusations, labeling them as politically motivated and an attack on his character.
“These allegations are entirely false and malicious. I have the utmost respect for the institution of marriage and would never engage in such behaviour. This is a deliberate attempt to tarnish my reputation,” Sankara said in his response, maintaining that the reports were baseless and intended to harm his image.
