The Premier League club, Everton, currently fighting to stay clear of relegation trouble, are reportedly preparing a January move for Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze, who currently plays for AC Milan.
Football Insider reported that Everton have been keeping close tabs on Chukwueze and see him as a crucial piece to enhance their attack.
The Nigerian international, renowned for his electric pace and aggressive, direct style of play, is believed to be high on the wish list of Everton’s manager Sean Dyche, who is seeking to inject more creativity and cutting edge into his side.
The 25-year-old made his name at Villarreal in Spain, where he scored 37 goals and registered 31 assists over the course of 207 appearances across all competitions.
His performances earned him a switch to AC Milan in the summer of 2023.
However, Chukwueze has found regular first-team action hard to come by at Milan under manager Paolo Fonseca, making just six substitute appearances in all competitions this season.
The Nigerian forward did, however, manage to open his league account with a well-taken goal against Udinese, where he was handed a rare start.
That match also saw him face off against fellow Nigerian international, goalkeeper Maduka Okoye. His composed finish after just 12 minutes helped Milan secure the victory, which propelled them to fourth place in the Serie A standings with 14 points from eight matches, five points adrift of league leaders Napoli.
Despite his limited role in Milan, Everton believe that Chukwueze’s talent and potential make him a prime candidate to elevate their squad, particularly as they aim to avoid another relegation scare.
His ability to stretch defenses and provide a spark in wide areas is seen as crucial to improving their fortunes.
One possible stumbling block, however, is Chukwueze’s salary demands, which could be on the high side for Everton, especially given the club’s financial constraints. But, with The Friedkin Group, currently in the process of taking a majority stake in the Merseyside club, there is optimism that the necessary funds could be made available to complete such a transfer.
In addition to Chukwueze, Everton are also reportedly exploring other options, including Serie A’s Santiago Castro, another player who could fit their profile.
The Friedkin Group’s experience in Serie A, thanks to their ownership of AS Roma, could prove instrumental in navigating these transfer negotiations.
For Everton, sitting 16th in the Premier League table, the second half of the season presents a critical juncture, and the acquisition of an explosive winger like Chukwueze could significantly bolster their survival hopes.
