Serena Williams recently opened up about a significant health scare, sharing that she had a cyst the size of a grapefruit removed from her neck.
In a candid TikTok video posted on Tuesday, the 43-year-old tennis icon recounted how she first discovered the lump back in May.
After undergoing thorough medical tests, Williams, a mother of two, was relieved to find out that the cyst was benign.
However, she noted that it continued to grow visibly on her neck, raising concerns. “It kept growing,” she explained in the video.
As the cyst swelled to the size of a grapefruit, her doctors advised that it be surgically removed to prevent complications like infection or leakage. Taking their advice seriously, Williams went through with the surgery.
In the video, she shared moments from the hospital post-surgery, expressing gratitude for her health and the positive outcome.
“So this is me removing it,” she captioned the footage, adding, “I am feeli[n]g so grateful and fortunate everything worked out, and most of all, I’m healthy.”
The surgery marks yet another chapter in Williams’ journey of resilience, as she continues to balance her role as an athlete, mother, and now a survivor of a concerning health issue.
