The Presidency has addressed the growing reactions surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s departure from the United Kingdom to France, clarifying that the President is still on his two-week leave.
President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had previously announced on October 2 that Tinubu had left Abuja for the UK to begin a two-week vacation, which was described as part of his annual leave.
In the statement, Onanuga said, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja today for the United Kingdom to begin a two-week vacation, part of his yearly leave.
He will use the two weeks as a working vacation and a retreat to reflect on his administration’s economic reforms.”
However, in a new development, President Tinubu left the UK for Paris, France, on Friday, prompting public speculation about his movements.
Ibrahim Kabir Masari, Special Assistant to the President on Political and other matters, took to his verified X account, @KabirIbrah64, to explain the President’s trip.
Masari wrote, “Today, I had the honour of visiting President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR at his private residence in the United Kingdom, where we engaged in productive discussions. We then departed for Paris, France, for another important engagement.”
Reacting to the comments trailing Tinubu’s trip, Onanuga reiterated on Friday night that the President is free to travel anywhere during his leave.
“President Tinubu is on leave for two weeks. He is not restricted to the UK. It is his private time. He can go anywhere he so desires. He is still observing his leave,” Onanuga stated via his verified X handle.
