Gunmen have reportedly kidnapped a couple, identified as Mr. and Mrs. Inebo, in Fugar, the administrative center of Etsako Central Local Government Area, Edo State.
The suspected kidnappers also took another person whose identity remained undisclosed at the time of the report.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday around 7 p.m. along the Fugar-Ekperi road, saw the victims being taken while returning to their village after attending a social event.
However, one of the abducted individuals managed to escape during a transfer between locations, leaving the Inebo couple behind in the kidnappers’ custody.
Spokesperson for the State Police Command, SP Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident, stating that police operatives had launched a manhunt for the assailants.
“The police are on the trail of the kidnappers and will soon effect the release of the victim and arrest the perpetrators,” Yamu assured.
In addition to the police efforts, local hunters from the area have joined the search, scouring the surrounding forests in hopes of rescuing the remaining hostages.
A source, who requested anonymity, disclosed that the hunters were combing through the dense bushland, determined to locate the couple and bring them to safety.
