A 44-year-old house agent, Arogundade Gbenga, popularly known as Baba Ibeji, has been fatally stabbed during an altercation with a colleague over a N1,000 house rent inspection fee in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The tragic incident occurred around 10 a.m. on Friday at Byazhin Across, Kubwa, in Bwari Local Government Area.
According to Sahara Reporters, eyewitnesses, the dispute escalated when Gbenga allegedly slapped another agent, identified as Ogbuabo Chibugo, who also runs a chemist in the area. In retaliation, Chibugo reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Gbenga.
A local source said, “There was a disagreement over the N1,000 inspection fee between Baba Ibeji and the other agent. After Baba Ibeji slapped him, Chibugo, in anger, stabbed him. Gbenga was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital, but the doctors confirmed him dead.”
Following the incident, Chibugo fled the scene to avoid being attacked by enraged residents. However, he was later apprehended by the police after attempting to hide in a nearby house.
A security official confirmed the arrest, stating, “The police located and arrested the suspect, who had gone into hiding after the attack. They also took his wife away from the area for her safety.”
Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident on Monday. “The suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation,” she said.
