Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have reportedly attacked a cattle ranch owned by former Ogun State House of Representatives member, Adesegun Adekoya, in Ako village, near Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.
According to The PUNCH, the assailants left at least two farmers with severe machete injuries during the Thursday afternoon attack.
Reports revealed that the attackers targeted the ranch, leaving the security guard, identified as Friday Ogan, and a 75-year-old resident, Adamu Idi, severely injured.
Both men sustained deep machete wounds, with Ogan suffering a serious cut on his leg and Idi receiving a brutal head injury.
Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident and stated that a manhunt for the suspects is in progress.
“A call was made to inform the police command about an attack that occurred at the victim’s cow ranch around 1:35 pm today (Thursday). Some suspected thieves allegedly broke through the windows to gain access to the building,” Odutola said.
Odutola further explained, “Upon breaking in, the thieves attacked the security guard, identified as Friday Ogan, causing him to sustain a deep cut on his leg. A 75-year-old man, identified as Adamu Idi, from Ako village, was also attacked with a machete, resulting in a deep cut on his head.”
Police immediately responded to the distress call, with officers from the division quickly arriving at the scene to assist the victims.
“As soon as the police were informed, they sprang into action. Upon arriving at the scene, the DPO took the victims to a nearby hospital called Love and Care Hospital for treatment,” she added.
Despite the violent nature of the attack, none of the livestock at the ranch were stolen.
“Investigations are ongoing, and any further developments will be communicated,” Odutola assured, as efforts continue to track down the fleeing attackers.
This incident follows a similar violent attack in the state earlier this year. On July 15, 2024, PUNCH Metro reported the tragic death of Ogar Fidelis, a maize farmer who was killed by unidentified hoodlums on his farm in the Odomosibi area of Ijebu-Igbo.
Fidelis was found with severe injuries, including deep cuts to his neck and leg, and later died after being discovered by his twin brother, Kehinde, lying in a pool of blood on their rice plantation.
