A South Korean Olympic shooter, who shot to fame for her striking “main character energy” at the Paris 2024 Games, Kim Yeji, has now secured a role as an assassin in a film—perfectly aligning with her cool and confident persona.
The 32-year-old athlete, who won silver in the women’s 10-meter air pistol event, captured the attention of global fans, not just with her remarkable performance but also with her distinct style and demeanor.
Competing alongside fellow South Korean marksman Oh Ye-jin, Kim narrowly missed out on gold, but remained unfazed, famously telling reporters that she had “nothing to improve” about her Olympic showing.
Her bold and poised presence has now earned her an acting gig in her home country.
A spokesperson for the South Korean production company Asia Lab confirmed on Friday that Kim will play a hitwoman in their upcoming spin-off series titled, ‘Crush’.
The show, directed by renowned filmmaker Lee JungSub, will also feature Indian actress and influencer Anushka Sen.
A teaser clip shared on Asia Lab’s Instagram features a confident Kim adjusting her co-star Sen’s gun posture in a behind-the-scenes moment, foreshadowing her on-screen persona.
Kim’s journey into shooting began when she was in the sixth grade, after persistently convincing her parents to let her pursue the sport.
She has since risen to international fame not only for her talent but also for her striking competition style.
At the Paris Olympics, she was widely praised for her “badass” appearance, donning custom-made, Terminator-style shooting glasses and a white baseball cap, while holding her daughter’s stuffed elephant in her non-shooting hand.
This isn’t the first time Kim has broken the internet. A viral clip showing her win gold at the 25-meter pistol event in Baku, where she shattered a world record, sparked a flurry of reactions online.
One viewer gushed, “This is the coolest anyone has ever looked while breaking a world record.” Another added, “This is the coldest s***. I’m obsessed.”
A third chimed in with admiration, saying, “And she’s nonchalant about it, oh she’s the coldest main character out there.”
With her new acting role, it seems Kim Yeji’s commanding presence, both on and off the shooting range, is just beginning to make waves.
