President Bola Tinubu is currently leading the 18th Federal Executive Council meeting at the Aso Chambers of the State House in Abuja.
According to The PUNCH, this is the first FEC meeting in six weeks, following the President’s recent international engagements in Equatorial Guinea, China, and the United Kingdom.
The meeting, which began at 12:25 p.m., has only 21 out of the 47 cabinet members in attendance.
Among those present are the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Key ministers attending include Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy; Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security; Abubakar Bagudu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning; Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development; and Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, among others.
Before the meeting officially commenced, the council members observed a minute of silence in memory of Mrs. Salome Jankada, a former Minister of Women and Youth Development during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who passed away on August 27, 2024.
Although the full agenda remains undisclosed, it is understood that several ministry project proposals are set to be presented for approval.
Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently representing Nigeria at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, along with some cabinet members.
