Former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic death of 40 members of the Tijjaniyya Movement in Nigeria, who perished in a road accident on Sunday.
The accident occurred while the victims were traveling from Kwandari in Plateau State to Saminaka in Kaduna State for a Maulud celebration marking Eid-el-Maulud, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad.
The tragic incident took place when their bus collided with an oncoming truck near Lere.
The collision resulted in multiple fatalities and left several other passengers injured, who are currently receiving medical treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
In a statement released on Tuesday by his media aide, Garba Shehu, Buhari conveyed his deep pain over the loss of lives.
He said, “I’m pained by the loss of many lives due to the road accident involving participants in the Maulud celebrations in Kaduna. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I pray that the injured recover soon.”
President Bola Tinubu also offered his condolences to the Tijjaniyya Movement’s members and leaders following the devastating crash.
Tinubu’s sympathies were expressed in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.
