The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has confirmed the purchase of Premium Motor Spirit, commonly referred to as petrol, from the Dangote Refinery at N898 per litre.
This marks the commencement of fuel lifting from the 650,000-barrels-per-day refinery located in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State.
The first batch of petrol was loaded by NNPC on Sunday, with over 300 trucks deployed to transport the product from the refinery.
According to The PUNCH, NNPC’s spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, earlier claims that the national oil company purchased petrol at N760 per litre were false.
“We successfully loaded PMS at the Dangote Refinery today. The claim that we purchased it at N760 per litre is incorrect. For this initial loading, the price from the refinery was N898 per litre,” Soneye clarified.
As of the time of reporting, more than 70 trucks had been loaded with petrol for distribution.
In a recent meeting regarding the sale of crude oil to local refineries, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, announced that NNPC would act as the sole off-taker of refined petrol from the Dangote Refinery.
Represented by the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zaccheus Adedeji, Edun noted that while diesel would be available for purchase in Naira to any interested buyers, petrol sales would be exclusively handled by NNPC.
Adedeji also confirmed the completion of agreements and modalities for the implementation of the Federal Executive Council’s approval on the sale of crude oil to local refineries in Naira, with a similar arrangement for purchasing petroleum products in the same currency.
