Three children have died following the collapse of a building in the Kofar Bai Quarters, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, Jigawa State.
The tragic incident occurred late Monday night, September 9, 2024, and was confirmed by the Jigawa State Police Command.
According to The PUNCH, DSP Lawan Adam, the spokesperson for the police command, the collapse happened around 11:50 p.m. in a residential house.
“At approximately 00:05 hours on Tuesday, September 10, Ahmad Isah of Kofar Bai Quarters reported that a section of his home had caved in,” Adam said in a statement.
Responding promptly to the distress call, local police, with the help of a concerned neighbor, embarked on a rescue operation. Seven people were pulled from the rubble and rushed to the Birnin Kudu General Hospital. However, three of the victims—Khalifa Ahmad, 13, Tijjani Ahmad, 12, and Rabiu Ahmad, 12—were pronounced dead on arrival.
“The victims were immediately taken to the hospital, but unfortunately, three of them were confirmed dead by the attending doctor,” Adam added.
The deceased were handed over to their family for burial in line with Islamic customs, while the remaining four victims are still undergoing treatment.
In a separate incident, the Jigawa State Police Command also announced the arrest of three suspected armed robbers who had been operating in the Dutse metropolis and Shuwarin town in Kiyawa Local Government Area.
